How many times have you felt it impossible to be emotionally strong in your life?

I am sure many a time.

When life batters you with problems after problems, you are so emotionally shattered that you feel that there will be no reprieve for you.

I too felt the same when I faced many traumatic incidents in my life. My confidence was crushed and thrashed by the never-ending procession of nightmarish situations I faced in my life. There were times when I felt my sanity itself was being threatened.

My life was a tragedy. I lost my husband. My financial position was in shambles. I became so emotionally weak that I would wallow in self-pity that I was the unluckiest woman in the whole world.

“I cannot handle it any longer. God help me,” I literally went down on my knees begging Him to show me mercy.

I thought my life has ended. Everything happening to me made me emotionally shattered.

But everyone has a crutch which makes them cling to their life even when they are smashed and crushed in their hurricane-like situations.

I too had a crutch which made me emotionally strong.

It was my daughter.

“I am the only person for her” this thought about my responsibility towards my daughter made me straighten my stooping shoulders even as I was suffering the worst trauma of my life.

I had so much to do for my daughter. So, I knew I could not afford to wallow in self-pity. It was then I grimly made the decision to give my life all that I had.

From that day onwards my shoulder remained straightened. Now, I enjoy my life with all its problems. I have also I realized that all my problems will move into past tense one day and are not there to stay with me forever.

I am sure you too must have faced many terrifying situations in your life.

You too feel that you will drown in the overwhelming emotional turmoil you are facing in your life, don’t you?

You are so drained of your confidence that you do not like to face the world. You feel that your problems will accompany you all through your life.

The seemingly never-ending problems you are facing makes you think that you are the only one to suffer in whole universe.

And your immediate reaction to your problems in life is self-pity. “I am born to suffer” this is what most of you feel.

This is a grave mistake.

Don’t ever wallow in self-pity. If you do so, you will never be emotionally strong to face the world.

You have no other go than to buckle up to face life at its harshest. Otherwise you might as well lose it.

Here are simple ways to be emotionally strong.

1. Understand that a problem free life does not exist

Do your problems make you fear about your life?

You are wrong in feeling so.

Life without problems do not exist for anyone all across the world.

Sufferings and problems are universal to everyone. You cannot live a life without problems. Issues and travails are part and parcel of your life.

So, when you face problems, do not become disheartened that you will never enjoy happiness in your life ever again.

If there were no problems in your life you will never evolve into a confident person.

Understand the simple fact that your problems will disappear one day. But to rejuvenate your life, you must face your problems and not shy away from it.

2.Go towards your problems

Mostly it is your problems that make you feel alarmed and depressed about your life.

Your problems are varied and different.

You have relationship problems with your spouse that makes you very unhappy in your marriage.

You have financial problems that makes you fear your future life.

You have work related problems that makes feel you stressed and tensed.

You cower with fear at the magnitude of your problems.

Do your problems disappear just because you want them to go away from your life?

No.

They don’t.

They remain with you, tormenting your mental peace. If you shrink in anguish it will not go away.

You must handle your problems with guts. You should do the needful to make your problems disappear from your life.

Have you seen the attitude of a lion?

It looks menacing as it comes towards you. It chases you when you run away from it. But when you turn back and run towards it, the lion is non-plussed. It beats a hasty retreat as it is not used to being chased.

Your problems also have the attitude of a lion.

When you go down on your knees before your problems, it assumes the menace of a lion. But when you go towards your problems, they slowly withdraw away from you.

But you should be practical enough to realize that your problems will not disappear magically. It takes time. You must be patient. You must be trying. Never let the delay in solving your problems make you emotionally weak.

So, keep fighting against your problems relentlessly.

3. Your problems are your teacher

In retrospection, you will see that your problems acted like your teacher. It is problems that teaches you the real face of life.

You know who your real friends are. You become your own master as no one else comes to your aid.

When problems attack you, you learn the art of survival.

You become a changed person, more mature and more aware of how to handle your life. Your life can be made easy or difficult to live by the way you react to it.

4. Do not look for excuses

Most of shirk away from your problems . You offer many lame excuses about your inability to handle it.

This is not the way to be emotionally strong.

If you are not emotionally strong, you look for excuses. And excuses have no solutions. Excuses only delay your fight against your drastic situation.

When you are mentally weak you shrivel in fear that your world has ended.

The simple trick to be geared up in life is to accept your mistakes as your own. Never make others a scapegoat for your problems. When you have the courage to accept your mistakes, you will automatically get the courage to overcome it.

5. See positivity in life

Some people grow up along with their problems. But there is another section of people who wilt and crumble under the impact of their problems.

Why does this happen?

Those who evolve with their problems become mentally strong as they never allow themselves to be deterred by its enormity.

Emotionally strong people look for solutions and not for excuses.

Those who succumb to the problems and issues they face in their life become meek and supine.

So, unless you are positive you can never hope to be emotionally strong. If you are negative you easily accept your failures and shrink yourself into a cocoon of misery and depression.

Your mind becomes cloudy with the negative thoughts that you feed into it. Naturally, your mind goes into a deep slumber making your life worthless and pointless.

But when you are positive you become resilient. You might have fallen down, but you get up again and again until you drive your problems away from your life.

Your resilience in getting up and fighting makes you emotionally strong and decisive.

“I will do it” should be your positive attitude. Never opt for “what can I do?” sort of a negative attitude.

Work relentlessly towards overcoming whatever problems that might attack your life. When you turn a fighter in your life, you become emotionally strong.

If you do so, there is no looking back in your life.
